Clustering images consists in grouping together images having a defined relationship. In this article, images are represented by quadtrees implemented in a hierarchical or in a linear way. The discussion, presented at the end of the article, allows selecting a quadtree-based representation well-adapted to a specific area of applications or to the characteristics of the manipulated images.Keywords: Hierarchical and Linear Quadtree, Similarity of Quadtrees, Operations on Image Quadtrees, Classification of Approaches

L'arbre quaternaire est une structure hiérarchique qui, lorsqu'elle est utilisée pour la recherche d'images par le contenu, permet de tenir compte de la localisation spatiale des caractéristiques d'image (couleur, texture, etc.). En fonction de la pondération des noeuds d'arbre quaternaire et de la distance choisie entre ces noeuds, lors du calcul de Delta, plusieurs distances entre arbres quaternaires ou plusieurs distances de similarité visuelle entre images peuvent être définies. Certaines mesures de similarité définies dans des articles scientifiques apparaissent comme des cas particuliers de la distance Delta. De nouvelles distances entre images peuvent également être définies à partir de la distance Delta.}, pdf = {http://www.lamsade.dauphine.fr/bdgl/PS/MRMMGJ_BDA2002.pdf} }
